Eat With Us

Nourished by the land

All produce is grown organically on Mukima's pesticide-free farm and orchard. Two private chefs work to the rhythm of the house, breakfast in the orangery, tea on the veranda, candlelit dinners by the fire.

We are a wellness centric family. Tell us how you like to eat and we will take care of you.

Rituals & Restoration

A large cedar-walled sauna for full-body detox. A Swedish wood-fired hot tub among the lavender. A massage room beside the pool with botanical oils. A gym, a treatment room, yoga and an unhurried calendar of small retreats.

We are a wildlife and wellness destination and we work hard to protect the peace and quiet that makes that possible.

Restorative wilderness at your doorstep

The Woodland Waddle , a 2-mile loop through our 150-acre rewilded forest. Bird-watching for 200+ species. A rowboat on the dam. Tennis, croquet, frisbee golf on the lawn. Five retired donkeys, the “lords of the manor”.

And when you want to go further, Ol Pejeta, Solio, Mount Kenya, Lolldaiga Hills. Tracking lions at dawn, feeding orphan rhinos by lunchtime.

Mother & daughter, never forgetting

The story is twofold. Elephants never forget, a nod to the guardians who poured their love into this land and home before us.

The elephants themselves are the bond between mother and daughter, Leslie and Anna. Anna following Leslie around the grounds in awe and admiration, always learning from her mother in both life and work.

A Sister Atelier

Dressed by Blue Rhino Africa

Every room at Mukima is dressed with handmade pieces from Blue Rhino Africa, our sister atelier. Sheepskin, hide slings, hand-stitched leather and botanical lampshades inspired by the gardens themselves. Made by talented Kenyan artisans that Mukima is proud to champion.

The Manor House
About Mukima

Her Story

Built in the 1930s, lost to a fire and a roof collapse, then patiently rebuilt by Leslie Duckworth to preserve the Fauna and Flora that surrounds the house and honor the natural that existed before mankind. Today her daughter Anna and son-in-law Shawn continue the conservation mission, in a style that is quieter, wilder, and more wellness-led.

Anna grew up here. Shawn arrived from Maui. Together they guard the manor, the forest and a beach on Lamu and call themselves, simply, the Guardians.
